Chilblains

July 5th, 2010 by admin

There are various conditions which could affect the circulation in response to cold weather. One of the more prevalent of these are chilblains. Chilblains most typically occur on the toes, but can affect the hands and have been seen to affect the nose and also the ears. The reason is a too rapid change from chilly temperatures to warm temps. Typically the little blood vessels require time to open in response to warming up. In a chilblain they do not throw open rapidly enough to get nutrients to the cells and shift aside waste material. This triggers an inflamation related response that eventually develops into the chilblain.
