Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Art Gallery, and the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Performing Arts are hotspots that should not be missed. The music scene in Brisbane prompted the nomination in 2007 by Billboard Magazine for Top 5 International Music Hotspots. Votes for Women ! Candidates that is…

January 11th, 2010 by admin

Brighton Short Breaks considers Brighton and Hove establishing its claim as the most Right On place in the this week with the occurance that it is the first  a parliamentary election has gathered an all-female list of nominees.

20 years after Mrs Thatcher broke governmental territory  by becoming  the first ever Prime Minister the charge that the foyers of Westminster are still a macho  club  ring just as loudly as ever! So, Brighton and Hove’s whole female  short list of Parliamentary candidates gives some encouragement to a future  exchange of base in the sexuality equaliser in the political power arena .

Being quoted in The Argus , Fawcett Society chief executive Ceri Goddard said: “If all the candidates are women that is cause for celebration but also concern that it has taken until 2009, whereas all-male elections are still the norm.

“The voters if Brighton can be pleased that whom ever they elect they will be a step closer to closing the gender gap in parliament where currently less than 20% of our MP’s are women – less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda.”

‘Less than Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda……… ‘ – personally that peculiar assertion left me slightly confounded about the state of our governmental arena and curious as to the reasons for male mastery above and beyond the historic antecedency that men should have it entirely their own way – and its a whole Pandoras box of discussion that is safest left for another place .

But my role here today is as – as always – to fly the flag for Brighton and Hove and prove how innovative intending and politically conscious our population  is, and having  a ratio of men to women in parliament  more true of the population, is in my judgment, a pace in the true direction!

Destination Toronto

January 9th, 2010 by admin

When we think of North American holidays almost always we thing of Disney World or something similar.   There are other countries in North America and Canada is one of them.  I love the deals you can get for hotels and holiday sight seeing in Toronto.  Ok yes it’s a stone throw from the US, but Toronto is still a great Canadian city with a lot of things to see and do.   A seven day holiday there is not nearly enough to take in all the sights and really enjoy the people and places.   So what to do?   Enjoy your week on holiday and then go back next year,  but not in the winter.

Who exactly is Maggie Brooks in Rochester NY

January 8th, 2010 by admin

Maggie Brooks is a politician in Rochester NY. She was initially on the news on a local station. But after many years of that, she decided to run for city politics. Or rather county politics. Maggie Brooks first secured a spot as the county clerk. This was an appointed position that the Governer of New York put her in.

After some time in that position, Maggie Brooks decided to run for County Executive. This put her in a much more powerful position where she has a serious influence on county politics and a much bigger budget. It has also put her at odds with the City of Rochester NY on several projects, including the revitalization attempts for the downtown Rochester region. She most recently blocked a very serious attempt to get Federal funding to revitalize a part of downtown Rochester NY that has been nearly unused for a decade. For more go here.

I love extended stay hotels

January 2nd, 2010 by admin

I have a new pet peeve when I travel. When I stay at any location more than 5 days I always stay at extended stay hotels. The rooms are so much bigger than the average hotel room and many of them have special amenities like fireplaces or huge bath tubs. The rooms also are a lot more quiet, they feel like you are staying in a apartment. Recently I stayed at a Henderson extended stay hotel and it had every creature comfort I could imagine. It was also close to my work location which meant I didn’t even have to rent a car. That was the best business trip I have had in years.

Cheap hotels are the perfect way to make the most of my shopping holiday

January 1st, 2010 by admin

I love living in my tiny country village. However, the shopping is really lacking! It is quite the ordeal when the New Year sales roll around. I am not a huge fan of online shopping as I like to browse things that I can actually see. So this year I’m taking my last couple days of holiday and going to head into London for two days. I’ve found a few cheap hotels that will be a perfect base in central London and it means I can make a bit of a holiday out of it and also make pit stops if my shopping load gets too heavy!

One Last Hoorah

December 31st, 2009 by admin

My friends and I have always gone to Disney for spring break. Every year during college, we went to Disney world. We had so much fun. It was like our tradition and we loved every minute of our time together. When we were talking about a graduation trip, going to Disney Grad Nite was the obvious answer! We booked our flight for April and off we went. We had the best time there! We loved walking around, meeting new people. It was the most fun out of all of our trips to Disney, by far! I am so glad we all got to spend one last time in Florida together.

The curvilinear white marble shikhar of the shrine soaring high in the sky looks like a ballad in stone when viewed in flood-lights in the evening. Depot at dock

December 26th, 2009 by admin

I had our car hire sorted out for when we arrived in Picton so now all we needed to do was get to Wellington and get on the ferry. I had considered getting a car and driving down and then keeping that for the trip through the south island but it was going to work out cheaper to fly down and then catch the ferry and pick up the car on the other side of the strait. It’s pretty handy that the depot is right there when you get off the boat so we can get straight on the road once we dock.
