Organic farmers have to battle plant disease, just like other farmers. The problem that organic farmers face is finding ways to prevent and treat plant disease without losing the organic status of their crops. Organic farmers have to be careful not to use fungicides that are not OMRI approved or approved by another recognized organic certification institute. Treatment of plant diseases like powdery mildew can be done safely with the use of the proper fungicide. Organic farmers can treat the mildew by applying certain fungicides during the growth process of their plants. Some fungicides can be applied from when the seeds are planted to when the vegetables are harvested.
